About Mat
I am a woodworker and fine furniture maker, deeply rooted in the tradition of craftsmanship but always driven by a passion for artistic innovation. My journey began when, at the age of 14, I built my first grandfather clock—a project that ignited a lifelong love for working with wood.
Since 2004, I have run my own woodworking business in Humboldt County, California, creating heirloom-quality furniture and home furnishings designed to last for generations. My work is inspired by the natural world and by artisans such as George Nakashima and James Krenov, whose reverence for wood as a living material reflects my own.
Like them, I believe in honoring the inherent beauty of each piece of wood, allowing its unique grain, texture, and imperfections to guide my designs. Over the years, I have refined my craft, blending traditional joinery techniques with a modern aesthetic to create furniture that is functional, beautiful, and timeless.
